In The Advice Girl there are two groups, The Guild and Vindicated Saints (VS), who are fighting against each other to help influence the world. The Guild wants to restore the world to a happier time and to do that they find people who can control the "light" and help them learn to control their abilities. With the abilities, the "talents" as they're called, can influence people to choose to do good things, and ultimately they can help reunite Earth with its parallel world, which essentially to me sounded like a Garden of Eden type world. The VS on the other hand, want to destroy the people who can use the light because they want the world to thrive on greed and selfishness, and they want to make it impossible to reunite Earth with its parallel. The VS do this because it means they can profit through manipulating others.
I loved the idea of the dueling groups, who are basically fighting the battle of good vs. evil, but I do wish that the story focused more on this battle than it did on the lives of the characters. Since this story focused on several characters rather than following one main character, it did come off as a bit rushed because you miss big chunks of time between the different characters' POVs. Along with the rushed quality, the plot did take a little while to develop, but that could be because this is the first book in a series, so it wasn't a huge shocker. Also sometimes the shift between the characters' POVs was a little unclear, it would have been helpful for there to be some kind of break in the page to make it more obvious. That being said, I did still think it was a great story. It was a fast-paced read, with a fantastic idea behind it, and I think that the follow up books will get even better. :)
The Advice Girl is the kind of story that intrigues you right away in the prologue with talk about secret societies, and sacrifices. It was inventive, and shows definite promise as the beginning to a great series.

I read this a little while ago, I liked the overall story but found the book poorly written :/
